THE HISTORY
Compadres Bar & Grill, which opened in 1984 in Honolulu's Ward Centre, has become one of the most popular restaurant destinations on both sides of the Pacific, winning awards in every community in which it operates as residents and visitors alike attest to the popularity of its "Western Cooking with a Mexican Accent."
Co-founded by Rick Enos and Dick Bradley of Victoria Station fame, Compadres continues to set records in Honolulu and also operates on Maui in the Lahaina Cannery, in the Napa Valley adjacent to Vintage 1870 in Yountville, near Stanford University in Palo Alto, and most recently, in Oakland, near Piedmont. Compadres also operates its popular taquerias at San Francisco's two major ballparks and in Standford Stadium, Aloha Stadium and Memorial Stadium on the campus of UC Berkeley and at Orlando's Caribbean BBQ at AT&T Bell.
Now owned by the Enos family, with sons Jeff and Scott in general management positions in Yountville and Palo Alto respectively and daughter Lauren heading California catering, Compadres features such highly popular dishes as fajitas, fish tacos, an array of international quesadillas and burritos, and such house specialties as Pollo Con Mole, Carnitas, Enchiladas Tepa, Puerta Vallarta Ceviche, and Seafood Taco Salad.
Its action-packed bars showcase margaritas, Mexican beers and local micro-drafts, California wines and the largest selections of tequila in the Pacific.
The upbeat, friendly staff turns all customers into "compadres" at the restaurant. All Compadres locations boast museum quality artifacts, a complement of Mexican Saltillo tile and hardwood floors, and memorabilia from local sports teams and events adding to the bright colorful décor.
Whether showcasing "Tacos & Margaritas," having manager's parties on the lanai or hosting fundraisers within its restaurant, Compadres is known for its active support of community events and for being an integral part of the cities in which it operates.
